FAQ

If you’re still a little unsure about joining Katie’s Classroom then please read some of our most frequently asked questions below:

Is Katie's classroom as good as one-to-one tutoring?

Yes but I don’t believe it has to be one or the other. You can use Katie’s Classroom to watch tutorials as many times as you like, at any time, whilst still having a one-to-one tutor. The whole point of Katie’s Classroom is that it has been created to offer flexibility and support at great value for money, giving your child a helping hand when it comes to their learning.

How do I know if Katie uses the correct methods? I don't want my child being confused. Do all schools use the same learning method?

I am a trained and qualified teacher and keep up-to-date with current methods within the National Curriculum. However, methods can vary slightly from school to school so my aim is to give you and your child a comprehensive bank of tutorials that includes the most common methods in use today.  However, if you feel that we haven’t covered something in quite the way your child has learned it at school then we are more than happy to accommodate a new method.  Just email us.

By using Katie's Classroom will my child's teacher and school feel undermined?

I certainly hope not.  Katie’s Classroom wants to work in partnership with all those involved in your child’s learning.  I taught in schools for seven years and was well aware that some children received additional tutoring at home. My methodology is completely transparent. Katie’s Classroom is about providing the best education and learning support for your child.  If you would like to let your child’s school know that you are using Katie’s Classroom please do.

I don't want my child to be doing more homework and especially on a screen than necessary.

Remember, Katie’s Classroom is a tool to help your child feel more confident in the topic they are finding tricky. It is designed to help them with their homework rather than give them more homework. The tutorials are short – two to six minutes each – and the worksheets are purely optional.

Can I cancel my subscription at any time?

Yes.  Quite simply you can cancel your subscription at anytime.  No problem at all.  No questions will be asked.

Does my child need Katie's Classroom?

Katie’s Classroom is here to help if your child is struggling to understand a particular topic or area of learning, or perhaps needs to an extra challenge.  It is also very useful for exam revision: for instance an end of term test, or an entrance exam for a new school.

Will Katie's Classroom challenge my child?

You will have access to all the year groups available.  However, I suggest working in partnership with the school and only moving up a level if your child is completely confident with the subject matter.  Test out their knowledge with our handy worksheets or get them to explain the subject matter to you.  Having to explain it to someone else is always a good test of how well the knowledge has been absorbed!  The worksheets should certainly stretch your child.

How much time a week should we spend on Katie's Classroom?

This is a tricky one to answer as it is entirely up to you and how much your child can take in on any given day.  For our homework help tutorials I would suggest as much time as you like, but for exam practice I suggest no more than twice a week, with perhaps a little more during school holidays.

With so much information on the internet, is Katie's Classroom necessary?

We feel that Katie’s Classroom is offering something very different from what is already out there. Katie’s Classroom aims to show you and your child how to approach a topic and learn by seeing and doing, not just playing or practising like other educational video sites.

Is Katie's Classroom credible?

Yes.  I completed my PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education) at Roehampton University in 2006, and taught in both state and private schools for over seven years. I underwent the rigorous process of an Ofsted school inspection twice in my teaching career and both times the school was deemed Outstanding. I have been a private tutor, helping children with homework and exam preparation, for ten years.
